What are smart fields? And why are they so useful?
Well, you know Bounsel is all about contract automation, and smart fields are the key to making the magic possible.
Smart fields make your documents dynamic by auto-filling information on your behalf. This means that whenever you create a new document from a template, you'll just need to fill out the values of the various smart fields, and the doc will be ready to go.
Bounsel offers you a variety of smart fields. Each one allows for different features. Once you upload or create a document, two calendar smart fields will automatically appear. These are for the Start and Expiration Date of your contract. You can select the type of smart field you want to use by clicking on the icon next to its name (by default when you add a new smart field it will be a Text one).
By clicking, you will see list of options in the form of a drop-down menu.
Instead, by clicking on the name, you may rename the smart field. You can also delete it by selecting the red trash can icon. To access the smart field's options, click on the three dots.
If you want to know how to set up the smart fields in the text, read this article.
If not, here's a rundown of every type of smart field, and all their features.
Types of smart fields
Text
Text smart fields allow you to write in plain words and have them appear in the text just as you wrote them. By clicking on the three dots you'll access the smart field settings. You can choose to have it show up as a question in a dynamic form when creating a template. And you can set a characters limit.
Calendar
You can select a date from the calendar, and even set up a reminder for that date. By opening the options panel, you can choose the date format you want to use.
Selection
The selection smart field is particularly useful for values that you know will repeat themselves over many contracts. For example, country of jurisdiction or job type. You can add the different values in the Options panel. If you select "Single", you will only be able to choose one of the values.
Instead, if you click on "Multiple", you will be able to select multiple choices. You can also write the connector word you want to show up between the values.
Once you've set up the smart fields, you'll be able to select the value you desire from the drop-down menu.
Currency
The currency smart field allows you to insert a numeric value connected with a currency (EUR,USD,GBP).
Number
In the number smart field you can only use numbers, setting a minimum and maximum amount.
Attachment ONLY AVAILABLE FORPREMIUM PLAN
See how to use the attachment smart field here. You can select them from the drop-down menu.
